As an Equine Holistic Therapist I deal with many issues with horses. Sometimes the problems are clear as to the cause, other times you have to delve deeper to get to the root of the issue. The first step is to gain the horses respect and trust before venturing into his mind and working through the problems.
The horse can tell us everything we need to know, there are no mind games, you just have to be open, observant and receptive.
Many issues I see stem back to a fear of showing emotion. These horses internalize their emotions. They hold their tension in their muscles, bottling it up until one day they explode. In most cases, I can change this pattern of behavior in one session, I call it reprogramming the brain. Obviously the reprogramming occurs during the same session for treating the pain/muscles tension. It is amazing how different the horses appear after the reprogramming session. Many horse owners say that it is like having a new horse.
The important thing to remember, is that there is always a reason for certain behaviors or perceived antisocial tendencies. Horses are herd animals, they are not loners, and we as horse owners need to remember that and learn to open up the channel of communication to allow them to be themselves......
Achieving optimal horse health, both physical and mental,
is a topic of extreme importance to me.
